Centrifuge brings Schroders’ emerging-markets bond fund to Solana

Centrifuge launched a tokenized share class for Schroders’ Emerging Market Bond strategy on Solana on Nov. 4, giving investors onchain exposure through a fund that holds shares in Schroders’ underlying bond fund. The Centrifuge announcement says the launch is Schroders’ first deployment on Solana. CoinDesk reports that the tokenized shares represent a feeder fund and track its net asset value.

What does a tokenized feeder fund hold?

The feeder fund invests in Schroders’ underlying Emerging Market Bond Fund. Investors hold tokenized shares in the feeder fund, rather than direct shares in Schroders’ fund, according to CoinDesk’s report. The arrangement puts a blockchain-based share record in front of an existing investment strategy: the underlying fund holds the bonds, while the feeder fund holds an interest in that fund.

Centrifuge provides the infrastructure to issue and manage the tokenized asset. Solana is the network where the onchain share class is issued. In plain terms, the feeder works like a container that holds an investment in the main fund; the token represents an investor’s share of that container. The sources describe the share value as tracking the feeder fund’s net asset value. They do not specify trading or redemption terms.

What debt strategy sits behind the token?

The underlying Schroders strategy invests in debt issued by governments and companies in emerging economies. That gives it exposure to borrowers, currencies and economic conditions across those markets. Centrifuge says Schroders has more than 50 years of experience in emerging-markets debt and more than 40 investment professionals dedicated to the asset class.

That makes this a different kind of onchain fixed-income product from one built around cash or short-duration government securities. The bond strategy carries exposure to emerging-market borrowers and currencies; tokenization changes how a share class is issued and represented, not what the underlying fund invests in.

What does the Solana launch change?

It brings Schroders’ strategy onto public blockchain infrastructure for the first time, according to Centrifuge. The announcement describes the fund as a potential building block for digital financial applications, but it does not name specific applications or say that the token is already accepted as collateral. The confirmed step is narrower: a feeder fund tied to Schroders’ emerging-markets bond strategy now has a tokenized share class on Solana.
